One Week Old Puppy Pictures

I just wanted to post a few cute pictures. I love the one of "Blue Boy" AKA Michael Phelps, practicing his strokes in the scale. This is the boy who swam out! I also like the one of "Orange" reclined and relaxed. I always try so hard not to pick a favorite based on personality, especially this early, but this guy cracks me up already. I always like the boys........GRRRR!!

One Week Update!

Whew! Where has the time gone? I am not sure what I was thinking when I bred this litter knowing its due date was the same week as my "Back to School" week. Oh well, we have all survived and thanks to Oneder's excellent care the puppies are doing great. They are getting bigger and louder every day. Right now "Orange Girl" is the biggest weighing in at 17 1/8oz. and "White Girl" is the smallest at 11 oz. I actually have on pictures why there might be such a weight disparity between the two. Please note the pushy behavior of "Orange" and what happens to poor "White"!

Olympic Trivia! A Longhaired even!!

Waldi was the first official Olympic mascot. Created for the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, he was a dachshund, a popular breed of dog from Germany, which represent the attributes required for athletes - resistance, tenacity and agility. Waldi was designed by Otl Aicher and modeled on a real dog, a long-haired Dachshund named Cherie von Birkenhof. Waldi's head and tail were blue and his body was stripes of the other Olympic colors.

Let The Games Begin!!!

Tonight the Olympic Ceremony ushered in what will hopefully be a very fun-filled and exciting time for the Olympic athletes and the wanna be athletes at home. I was thinking about names tonight while watching and nothing really hit me. I did smile a few times though when I thought of some of the Olympic events that have taken place in the whelping box this week right in my very own kitchen!
Surely there should be a medal for the "Panting and Whining (for thirty six continuous hours) event. In this event Oneder would no doubt win the gold! She never waivered in her routine or form. Next I would like to nominate the "Whelping Nine Puppies Without Pushing" event for a medal consideration. Oneder would also win a gold medal in this event as she seemed to think the puppies would somehow swim out without the benefit of her involvement. In fairness to all involved in the "Kitchen Olympics" Lindsay should be a medal contender for her "Midwifery" skills under such difficult conditions. Since I came in at the tail end of the event I will be satisfied with an honorable mention. I would like to present "Blue Boy" with a medal because he REALLY did swim out during birth. This boy has talent and should be watched closely to see how his style improves with maturity. "Red Girl" will be presented a medal for her ability to nurse non-stop. This nursing skill will hopefully help her in preparation for the Sumo Wrestling event later.
I am sure my little Olympians will have more medal winning events planned in the weeks ahead. I can't wait!!
